Wechsler & Abraham private trial balance ledger, 1886-1952, bulk 1886-1903.

Account book containing the private trial balances for Wechsler & Abraham, and later Abraham & Straus, from February 1886 to January 1903. In addition to balancing typical accounts such as capital, cash, merchandise, bills receivable and payable, expenses and revenue, there are separate accounts for advertising, travel, investment securities, insurance, etc. The capital invested by each partner is recorded separately and there are also separate accounts for named individuals. Laid in the front of the volume are 23 loose sheets of paper, primarily notes abstracted from the volume but also an Abraham & Straus letter dated September 24, 1952.

Wechsler & Abraham were dry goods merchants who operated a department store in Brooklyn, New York. Joseph Wechsler (1837-1896) and Abraham Abraham (1843-1911) formed their partnership in 1865.
